Published in 1899, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad greatly influenced later writer such as Franz Kafka and T.S. Eliot, and it even provided the inspiration for the 1979 movie Apocalypse Now. Professor Noriyuki Harada of Keio University will discuss the background of this novella, and Mr. Yasuhiro Tsumura (Representative of the Japan Office of the World Food Programme) will talk about the current situation in DR Congo from the perspective of humanitarian and development assistance.
