Augustus John (1878-1961) was a Welsh painter who had a place of his own in the British art scene. Before the First World War, he attracted the attention and expectations of young artists as one of the most innovative painters. He drew portrait drawings that accurately captured the characteristics of models with delicate lines, and simple and fanciful studies. At this exhibition, his early drawings from the Matsukata Collection will be exhibited.
