Toyo Bunko Museum The Treasures of Iwasaki Collection
To contribute to academic development in Japan, Toyo Bunko was established in 1924 with the support of Hisaya Iwasaki, the third president of Mitsubishi. In establishing the Toyo Bunko Museum, Hisaya not only donated the premises, but strove to enrich the book collection. Numerous valuable books were brought in from his personal library of approximately 38,000 volumes. This special exhibition displays precious masterpieces from the Iwasaki Collection, which represent the history of Japanese bibliophilic culture, including national treasures, important cultural properties of Japan, gorgeous books, and ukiyo-e woodblock prints.
