At the Society’s Annual Dinner held on 22nd November, Mr. Tim Minton, Chairman of the Awards Committee announced the recipient of this year’s Japan-British Society Awards, Mrs. Ursula Bartlett-Imadegawa for her contributions to the furthering of UK-Japan relations.

Mrs. Ursula Bartlett-Imadegawa: Originally from Cardiff, Wales, Ursula came to Japan to share her passion for art and teach at an international school. During her time here, she not only dedicated herself to studying Japanese art—particularly prints—but also embraced her new home, marrying a wonderful Japanese man and raising two children. Retired from full-time teaching, Ursula is presently an International Baccalaureate Art examiner. From the inception of the St David’s Society in 1981, Ursula has provided leadership and vision. The Society has hosted over 80 events, from informal pub meet-ups to workshops on the Welsh language and food among other events, supporting the Celtic Festival and creating a hub for Welsh during the Rugby World Cup in 2019. The Society aims to foster a deeper understanding of Welsh culture in Japan and also serves as a welcoming home for the Welsh community and Japanese friends of Wales, fulfilling its mission to build bridges between our two nations.
