The museum’s founder, Nezu Kaichirō, was not particularly interested in collecting weapons and armour, however, in 1909 he decided to purchase a group of more than 3,000 pieces from the entrepreneur Mitsumura Toshimo. It was a decision motivated by concern over the possible outflow of superb works abroad, in order to preserve the integrity of Mitsumura’s systematically assembled collection. This exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to view carefully selected sets of outstanding formworks of armour. https://www.nezu-muse.or.jp/
