The Wars of the Roses, a major upheaval in the late Middle Ages, was named after the national flower of England. This civil war, which plunged England into chaos and despair, also laid the foundations necessary for the transition to the “modern era.” Was the transition from the reign of Henry VI, who was described as weak, to the Tudor dynasty, which symbolized absolute monarchy, truly a break with the Middle Ages? This exhibition explores this question.
