This year marks the 170th anniversary since the Treaty of Peace and Amity between Japan and the United States was signed in Yokohama in 1854. With the conclusion of this treaty, Japan was forced to maintain diplomatic relations with Western countries, and in 1858 the Shogunate established the Foreign Bugyo. Meanwhile, the Kanagawa Magistrate was established in Yokohama when the port was opened. There will be some historical materials which have never been on display as well as the exhibits on figures of the “diplomats” at the end of the Edo period.
