An exhibition entitled “Samurai Style” is being held at Seikado Bunko Art Museum in Marunouchi. Among the exhibits which include decorative inro containers and netsuke, there will be the first display of a sabre (made in Britain in 1863) which Queen Victoria sent to Goto Shojiro (father-in-law of Iwasaki Yanosuke) to thank him for having protected Sir Harry Parkes from attack at the time of his visit to Emperor Meiji in 1868. The Society has organised a special lecture by the curator, followed by individual visits to the exhibition. The lecture will be in Japanese. Christies Japan (a corporate member) has kindly offered their office premises for this occasion. As the space is limited to 30 people, booking will be closed when the number is reached.
