This year’s Princess Chichibu Memorial Lecture will be given by Mr Yoshiji Nogami, former Chairman of the Society and Japanese Ambassador to the UK. He will talk on “Brexit and Japan-UK relations” in English.

[Mr Yoshiji Nogami] graduated from Tokyo University, Department of Liberal Arts and entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1966. He worked as Economic Counsellor at the Embassy of Japan in the U.S., Consul-General of Japan to Hong Kong, Director-General of MOFA’s Economic Affairs Bureau, and then as Deputy Vice-Minister and Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs until he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Court of St. James’s in 2004. After 4 years of service in the UK, he returned to Japan in 2008. He served as President and Director General of The Japan Institute of International Affairs (2009-2018), and as Chairman of the Japan-British Society (2009-2016); he was appointed Vice President in 2017. Mr Nogami was awarded a CBE in February 2018.
