The Royal School of Needlework (RSN) is a UK hand embroidery school that was founded in 1872. JBS member Ms Emi Nimura is the only RSN tutor teaching in Japan.
Here needlework four-leaf clover was used as an important motif in the NHK morning drama series “Beppin-san”, and she demonstrated how it is made in the E-Television programme “Suteki-ni handmade”.
Participants in our workshop learned traditional stitch techniques and make a four-leaf clover pattern on a handkerchief.

Members attended “Igagoe Dochu Sugoroku” a special guided tour of the stage after the performance.

An orientation by a director of Pilgrims Ltd. was held for members interested in registering their children for a Pilgrims summer course.
These courses are for children aged from 12 to 18.

The Society held a lecture (in English) by UK journalist Bill Emmott:
“Brexit, Trump and threats to the liberal international order: what Japan and the UK can do”.
Mitsubishi Corporation was kindly providing both the venue and a reception after the lecture.

Annual New Year Party at Gakushi Kaikan provided members with a good opportunity to meet informally to celebrate the arrival of 2017.

Ms Tamao Sako is a well-known cooking instructor specialising in British puddings.
In 2014, she advised NHK on the production of Scottish cuisine/puddings for its popular TV drama Massan.
Ms Sako held a British Pudding Seminar for JBS members.
Participants enjoyed Scones, Bakewell pudding and Sticky Toffy Pudding at the end of the seminar.

With the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics in mind, the Junior Group invited a power lifter, Ms Eri Yamamoto McDonald, who is aiming to compete at the Tokyo Paralympics, to its annual Christmas party at the British pub “FooTNik” in Osaki.

JBS members visited Kyudo Kaikan (Hongo, Bunkyo-ku), a Buddhist temple designed in the form of a western church by Goichi Takeda, who introduced art nouveau and Vienna Secession style to Japan in the early 20th century. Kyudo Kaikan is registered as tangible cultural asset of Tokyo.
After the guided tour, participants had lunch at a restaurant located in the University of Tokyo.
